Abolfazl Roghani added: Production of two million tons of extra paper in the country without any use for it in the domestic market indicates that there is no proper planning, structure and land-use planning.

He went on to ask the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade to issue licenses based on a plan, a strategy for industrial development and territorial cooperation.

Head of Paper and Cardboard Syndicate said creating production units without studying and measuring the needs of the target market brings about several problems, such as eliminating experienced producers, unhealthy competition, dumping, waste of money and capital, and so on.

In another part of his speech, he stated that the bulk of the raw material for the production of wrapping paper is provided through the recycling of cardboard and paper, he added: At present, the country's orientation is only towards the production of wrapping paper and other areas are neglected.

Roghani added: Unfortunately, the continuation of this procedure is not good for Iran, besides, the country lacks market and export infrastructure in the field of wrapping paper.

Stating that the technology used to produce newsprint and paper writing is completely different from wrapping paper, he expressed: There is an investment opportunity in the production of paper writing, newspapers, tissue, etc. in the country, so it requires more investment permits to go this way.

Head of Paper and Cardboard Syndicate said import of wrapping paper is not cost-effective, and is no longer attractive to importers. He added: The domestic paper market is currently in a glutted state.

He added in his interview with “Eghtesad Radio”: Competition in the field of wrapping paper is very tough and serious; and prices are declining.
